012 global magnesium demand will increase by 7.5%

At the 69th International Magnesium Conference in 2012, Australian consulting firm Clark & Marron (C & M) released global magnesium demand forecast:
(1) The global demand for magnesium will grow at an average rate of 6.6% per annum, reaching 950,000 tons by 2016, mainly due to the increase in demand for magnesium-alloy and automotive die-casting.
(2) 2012 global magnesium demand will grow 7.5% over 2011 to 74.5 million tons, of which magnesium demand for magnesium alloy will grow 14% year on year to 28 million tons, automotive die-casting magnesium demand will increase by 10% 21 million tons.
